The glory of the garden
National Garden Week, as designated by National Garden Clubs, Inc. (NGC) runs from June 4 through June 10 and celebrates the passion and efforts of gardeners nationwide to "nurture the beauty and resources of the earth." A proclamation issued by NGC President, Sandra Robinson, enumerates the many benefits of gardening from adding "beauty, splendor, fragrance and nutrition to our lives," and promoting the important role of "creatures large and small" in our ecological balance, to providing "challenging and productive" activity in connection with the earth for children and adults, beginners and the well initiated, that lead to a richness of life not easily duplicated in other endeavors.
During this period of time, the Boothbay Region Garden Club will be displaying fresh flower arrangements at five different locations around the region to celebrate and acknowledge National Garden Week. The flower compositions will make their homes at the town offices of Boothbay, Boothbay Harbor and Southport, and in the libraries of Boothbay Harbor and Southport and will be accompanied by additional information about National Garden Week. Though specific to National Garden Week, this BRGC activity is one of many throughout the year that demonstrates the importance of gardening and acknowledges the many contributions of gardeners to the community. BRGC invites you to enjoy the beautiful arrangements and encourages you to engage in a healthy lifestyle of digging in the dirt! After all, our earliest beginnings trace back to a garden.
