BRHS students earn five hours community service at Fish & Game Club
Eight BRHS students participated in the Boothbay Region Fish & Game Association's annual Work Day on April 29 to earn community service hours.
There was much to be done at the club, with one of the major projects being improvements to the handicap-accessible walkway from the bridge to the club house and fishing pier. A number of students helped shovel, rake and fill several tons of stone dust and gravel in order to smooth out the path for wheelchair use, and trimmed back the bushes and brush. Others helped clear away brush and debris from the property, raked leaves, and helped fill and smooth out the parking area. All worked tirelessly, and by the time a pizza lunch was served in the club house, the grounds had been markedly improved.
"This was a terrific turnout," said Dennis Blackman, BRF&GA president. "The kids really pitched in and made a huge difference. The club is now more handicap-accessible than it ever has been, and these kids should be proud of their efforts."
Participating students included Savannah Sedivy, Erica Eames, Brogan Barter, Sam Burnham, Emma Hodgdon, Hailey Greenleaf, Colby Babcock and Gerald Gagne. Students must complete a minimum of five hours of volunteering for a non-profit organization each year from grade 9 through grade 12.
