Rotary names Rebuilding Together beneficiary of 21st Soup Bowl Supper
Boothbay Harbor Rotary has announced it will donate to Rebuilding Together-Lincoln County its half share of proceeds from the annual Rotary-Watershed Soup Bowl supper. The event, sold out last year with 200 in attendance, is set for Thursday, April 6 at the American Legion Hall located at the Boothbay Industrial Park. It will again feature up to 50 gourmet soups from area restaurants, as well as from Rotary members and potters of the co-host Watershed Center for the Ceramic Arts.
Also offered is a variety of homemade salads, breads, cookies and desserts. Doors open at 6 p.m. Entry at $15 and open to the public. Diners then select a beautiful ceramic bowl made and fired by the potters of Watershed and fill it with soups from some of the finest cooks on the peninsula. Seconds are available as long as supplies last.
The Watershed Center, as before, will receive the other half of the evening’s proceeds.
The event will also feature drawings for fabulous doors prizes donated by local merchants and for table flower arrangements donated by Conley’s Garden Center and Landscaping and Boothbay Region Greenhouses. Also, the fun tradition of tables bidding for the right to “jump the line” and get up to the soup tables first, second or third.
At evening’s end, unclaimed pots will be on sale for a bargain $5 as will quarts of take-home soups for $5.
Rebuilding Together-Lincoln County is a 501 (c) (3) organization of about 200 volunteers founded in 2002 to undertake renovation jobs for elderly, disabled and low-income residents one day a year – this year Saturday April 29. RB-LC has worked on close to 200 area homes undertaking plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, winterizing repairs and yard clean-up work. Volunteers range from highly skilled professionals to those simply willing to learn. RB-LC is affiliated with National Rebuilding Together headquartered in Washington, D.C. which has 225 affiliates nationally serving 1880 communities with over 275,000 volunteers. Rotary’s Supper Bowl proceeds netted $1,000 last year and underwrote building repair supplies.
