Insight meditation at Community Center
A meditation group, open to anyone interested, meets every Wednesday afternoon at 4:30 at the Community Center in the Meadow Mall. Meditation is a practice in which one learns to quiet the mind through concentration. It can provide a calming effect and allow the practitioner to develop insight into the working of his or her own mind.
The group is open to anyone who would like to try meditation. No experience is required and enough basic instruction is available during the summer to get you started and to develop your practice. The invitation extends to those who would like a group to practice with, those who would like to give meditation a try, or those who are curious and would like to get an idea of what meditation is about.
There is no certified teacher for the group, but Andrew Twaddle has been practicing at Show Me Dharma in Missouri for the past 14 years under the guidance of Ginny Morgan, Beth Schuler, Joe McCormack and other teachers. He has done retreats with Gina Sharpe, Jack Kornfield and Vens. Pannawadi and Pannadipa.
While the group is following a style of meditation that originated in Nepal and is most closely associated with Thai and Burmese Buddhism, mediation itself is found throughout the world in all religious traditions and outside the realm of organized religion.
