BCA Fourth of July Top 10
The Boothbay Civic Association will hold its 30th annual Fourth of July Celebration on the Boothbay Common between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Here are the tops 10 things to do at the Celebration -- in no particular order.
1. Celebrate the 240th year of our country's independence by wearing the red, white and blue and singing along with the music provided by the Boothbay Region Community Band beginning at 10 a.m.
2. Have an all-American hot dog (or two), grilled to perfection by BCA volunteer John Bertolet.
3. Line up for the barbecued chicken, salads and pies, served under the big tent at noon by BCA volunteers. A bargain at $12 per person.
4. Bring or watch the kids play in the games provided by Desiree Scorcia of the Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library ... Water games, reading activities, tossing games and more.
5. Shop at the craft and food tents set up along the Common. There will be a wide variety of items made by Maine craftsmen.
6. If you really want to cool off, wear your bathing suit and get dunked in the Boothbay Fire Department's dunk tank. Or pay a dollar to dunk someone else brave enough to fall into the cold water.
7. Listen to the music by local musicians Arthur Webster, Gabe Tonon, Rick Limouge and Kathi Nordone -- in that order following the Community Band -- between about 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
8. Dance to the music...Don't hold back! Remember, you're celebrating freedom!
9. If you have a chance, thank BCA member and all-around great community-minded woman Joan Rittall (she's the short one under the big tent) for her 30 years of service in organizing the celebration.
10. Spend some money. The BCA depends on it for its community projects and the local fire department is hosting the state firefighters convention in 2017 so it needs some cash to put on a great reception and convention.
Happy Fourth of July and see you on the Common.
