Boothbay Region Land Trust (BRLT) welcomes your participation in a stewardship work party at Penny Lake Preserve on Saturday, May 21. Work will begin at 8 a.m. and will end no later than 3 p.m. Volunteers are not expected to work the entire day, but are encouraged to participate as long as they are able.

The primary objective of the work party will be to surface the hiking trails with a natural wood industry by-product called ‘Superhumus’. Although there is no heavy lifting, it is a labor intensive job, requiring many hands. Once the material is placed on the trail, rakes will be used to spread it to a depth of 3-4 inches deep. Depending on the number of participants and available time, other projects will be tackled including apple tree pruning, straightening the kiosk, re-setting the fence, pruning and general grooming of the preserve.

Boothbay Region Land Trust will provide some tools (rakes, shovels, pruning tools, etc.). If possible, volunteers are asked to bring their own personal tools and safety equipment such as safety glasses, gloves, sun protection, insect repellent and hand clippers. Please make sure that all personal tools are well labeled. Light refreshments and water will also be provided by the land trust.
