Dr. Wendy Wolf receives Maine Family Planning Association Award
At its May 8 annual meeting, the Maine Family Planning Association announced that Dr. Wendy Wolf of West Boothbay Harbor had been selected to receive the prestigious Sherry & David Huber Award. Dr. Wolf was selected for this award based on her long-standing service and commitment to promoting access to women's family planning and reproductive health services, particularly for those Maine women who are uninsured and living in low-income families.
Dr. Wolf is president and CEO of the Maine Health Access Foundation, which is a state wide private health foundation committed to promoting access to quality care, particularly for those who are uninsured and underserved, and improving the health of everyone in Maine. After 15 years guiding the foundation’s work as president, she will be stepping down at the end of this year.
The Sherry & David Huber Award was established by the Maine Family Planning Association’s Board of Directors over 20 years ago to acknowledge the couples’ commitment to promote family planning and reproductive health services. As members of the Maine State Legislature, David Huber served as Republican Co-Chair of the Joint Standing Committee on Appropriations while his wife, Sherry, was a member of the House of Representatives. Together, they helped guide the passage of the Family Planning Services Act in 1986. This act has provided financial support for family-planning services for low income women and teens for the last 30 years.
