BRHS track teams excel in Hall-Dale, Wiscasset meets

Last week was chilly and wet, but the Seahawks rose to the challenge with two successful meets on May 3 at Hall-Dale and May 5 at Wiscasset.
With just two more weeks in the regular outdoor track season, Boothbay Region High School athletes are honing their skills with their eyes on qualifying to compete in the championship season ahead. As of May 9, 11 BRHS female athletes and 15 males have performed well enough to qualify for the Mountain Valley Conference Championship meet. Five of those girls and eight boys have also qualified for the state championship meet.
“The team is doing some really great things and we are setting ourselves up very nicely for a strong showing at the conference championships,” Coach Nick Scott wrote in an email.
At Hall-Dale, Boothbay faced track powerhouse Lisbon for the first time this year, as well as Hall-Dale, MCI, Winthrop, Wiscasset and Richmond. Scott said the Hall-Dale meet was “a fantastic meet for both teams and for many individuals.” Lisbon won the boys meet with 186 points, followed by MCI, 109, BRHS, 95, Winthrop, 90, Hall-Dale 63, and Wiscasset, 38.
Abel Bryer led the male point scorers with 28 points, placing first in javelin (135-05), and third in shot put (37-05) and discus (103-08). Kyle Ames, in his first event of the season, was the second highest male scorer with 22 points. Draco Peaslee scored 20 points at Hall-Dale, placing second in the 100m dash (12.11) and third in the 200m (24.61). Also scoring double digits at Hall-Dale were Matt Burnham (17 points), Morgen Wilson and Blake Erhard (14 points) and Jacob Leonard (10 points).
Lisbon girls dominated the Hall-Dale meet as well, winning the event with 171 points. BRHS placed second with 116, followed by Hall-Dale, 70, MCI, 67, Wiscasset, 60.5, Winthrop, 60.5, and Richmond, 31. Top scorers Hannah Morley (34 points), Angie Perkins (33 points) and Olivia Paolillo (32 points) were huge contributors for BRHS at Hall-Dale. Morley placed first in the 1600m run (5:57.28) and 3rd in the 800m (2:42.95). Perkins won the 200m and 400m runs, (28.55, 1:02.99) and placed third in the high jump (4-04). Paolillo placed second in the 100m hurdles (20.66) and third in the 300m hurdles (55.50). The top scorers all ran relays. Samantha Carter (14 points), Meghan Oakes (14), Loren Genrich (12) and Lisa Pawlowski (11) also all scored double digits at Hall-Dale.
The May 5 meet against Wiscasset and Madison saw both BRHS teams dominating the small field.
With temps in the low forties, a steady wind and overcast skies, it was not a great day for being outdoors. Athletes kept on their warmups until the last possible moment and huddled around in blankets. But unseasonable weather didn’t damper performances. The BRHS boys team scored 90 points, followed by Madison, 40, and Wiscasset, 25. The Lady Seahawks scored 79 points, followed by Wiscasset 42, and Madison, 18.
Perkins led the Lady Seahawks in scoring with 20 points, placing first in the 400m dash (1:04.49) and the high jump (4-06). Also scoring double digits were Paolillo (16), Morley (15), Carter (13) and Allie Simmons (10). Bryer led the boys at Wiscasset, as well, with 18 points and two first place finishes (javelin, 125-06 and shot put, 38-07.5) and one second (discus, 109-03). Burnham, Peaslee and Erhard all scored 16 points and Ames and Liam Conlin scored 10.
BRHS track teams return to Wiscasset on May 10, where they will face Wiscasset and Mt. Abram.
