Compass Rose Events planning move to Boothbay
Compass Rose Events may be on the move. The Boothbay Planning Board will hold a special meeting at 6:30 p.m. on May 4 to consider Compass Rose’s application for a retail event planning business.
The Boothbay Harbor business is now located in The Russell House, but the business is seeking to relocate to the Boothbay Playhouse. On April 13, a company official requested the board hold a special meeting to hear the request.
Chief Financial Officer Neal Jones represented Compass Rose during the board’s regularly scheduled meeting last month. He explained Compass Rose has leased the property and the special meeting is necessary to meet its May 15 moving date goal.
“It came to our attention in the middle of the process we need a permit so I’m here petitioning for a special meeting,” Jones said.
Compass Rose plans to use the residence for administrative offices and sales call center. The Boothbay Playhouse would be used for storage and warehouse space. Jones said the location wouldn’t be used for events.
The Boothbay Playhouse properties are located at 267 and 275 Wiscasset Road on Route 27. The property is zoned commercial 1 which permits administrative office and warehouse uses, according to Planning Board Chairman Alan Bellows.
The board will also hear another request during the special meeting. Consultant Eric Marden will represent the Newell Family Trust’s application for creating water access by adding a deck over existing lot coverage in the Shoreland Zone. The property is located at 256 Shore Road in East Boothbay.
The board will also hear a pre-application proposal by Paula Ragsdale Arsenault and Bill Arsenault for review of a site plan for existing, non-conforming trade of lot coverage in Water Reservoirs Protection District.
