Trevett Post Office gets new ramp
It just became a little easier to get your mail at the Trevett Post Office. A new handicapped-accessible ramp and stairs were attached to the post office’s entrance. After three weeks of work, Gardner Construction of Chicopee, Massachusetts completed construction of the new ramp and stairs on Feb. 1.
Inside, the contractor lowered the postal counter, changed the door hinge so it opens out, and replaced the electronic door lock. The post office shares the building with the Trevett General Store. Postal Service employee Dana Norris said the refurbishing didn’t impact the flow of customers to either the post office or general store.
“People came through our door because the store doesn’t have its own walkway. People came in, got their mail and went into the store for lunch or to pick up something. It was no trouble at all,” Norris said.
Norris has worked at the Trevett Post Office for five and a half years. This is the first major refurbishing at the post office during his tenure.
The U.S. Postal Service contracts with Gardner Construction for projects in Maine and New Hampshire, according to Norris.
