Boothbay planning board approves two building permits
The Boothbay Planning Board approved two building permits and discussed a potential future application during the Dec. 16 board meeting. The planning board voted 5-0 in approving building permits for both applicants.
The board approved a Shore Road couple’s request to construct a 209.4-square-foot addition to the existing, non-conforming residence located in the shoreland overlay zone.
Joseph Furey and Cynthia Roposo want to put an addition on the residence. They proposed removing a portion of lot coverage equaling more than the new addition. Eric Marden of Marden Builders, Inc. of Boothbay represented the owners. He indicated the owners would remove one of two proposed impervious surface lots on the property. A lot would be re-vegetated in exchange for the house addition, according to Marden.
The second applicant received approval to remove and replace a stairway. Dix Druce of Portland wants to remove a 42-square-foot stairway and replace it with a 12-square-foot stair and walkway. Druce needed planning board approval because the cottage, located at 122 Kimballtown Road in Trevett, is within 75 feet of the water.
Druce is in the process of making internal changes to the cottage. He previously received approval to switch the locations of a bedroom with the laundry room. He was represented by Abby Laukka-Hardy of the Rockport-based construction company, Bruce Laukka, Inc.
The planning board also discussed a potential future application for an addition to a Van Horn residence. Peter Ripley represented the owner regarding a potential expansion of a residence in the shoreland zone. Ripley explained his client wanted to add a bedroom and deck. Ripley indicated he’d return next month with a formal proposal.
The planning board concluded the meeting with a workshop session which included Boothbay Region Water District program manager Sue Mello discussing the Maine Forest Service statewide standards for the shoreland zone and maps.
The planning board’s next meeting is at 6:30 p.m., on Wednesday, Jan. 20 in the municipal building.
