Trustees in home stretch on fall improvement projects
The Community School District Trustees are in the home stretch of the crosswalk improvement project. After some delays in shipment, the new signal poles for each side of the crosswalk have arrived.
The Boothbay Harbor Public Works Department went up to the Augusta Department of Transportation office to get the signal poles and will store them until they can be installed.
Maintenance Supervisor Dave Benner checked with Code Enforcement Officer Geoff Smith, who said that no special permitting was required to install the poles. According to Benner, Smith said as far as installation goes he “trusts the good judgment of public works under the leadership of Chris Leeman.”
Superintendent Eileen King expressed her appreciation of the work being done.
“We're really getting these in at the best time,” King said. “With daylight saving time coming up and kids crossing at dusk, it's become even more important to make them visible.”
Another upcoming project is the installation of new bleachers, set to happen between Oct. 19 and 26. The old bleacher boards will be neatly piled outside for anyone who wants to grab one as a souvenir. The trustees decided it would be first come, first served, and any left when the installation is complete will be carted away.
