White Owl Duo concert and classes scheduled
Laura Perkins and Kenneth Green, The White Owl Duo and White Owl Products, will give a Native American Flute Concert on the Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library lawn on Wednesday, Sept. 9, 5:30-6:30 p.m., and offer a beginner class series at the library, “Learn to Play the Native American Flute” on Wednesdays, Oct. 7, 14 and 21, 4:30-6:30 p.m., in the upstairs multi-purpose room.
The White Owl Duo teaches and performs throughout the United States. Their music has been described as powerfully drawing, leading one back to the source of their own creation. Laura Perkins is the author of the acclaimed “Native American Flute Tutor Book” and “Earth Mother Flute Songs” for the 6-hole Native American Flute.
Kenneth Green is known throughout the world for his amazing woodworking and instrument making skills. His White Owl quality six-hole Native American flutes are sold in many countries and in museum gift shops throughout North America.
The White Owl Duo has recorded five albums. They were a 2004 NAMMY (Native American Music Awards) finalist for the Best Traditional Recording and were chosen four times to be Artists-in-Residence for the U.S. National Park Service. The White Owl Duo has been the recipient of ten grant awards for their tireless work researching, documenting and recording authentic Native American tunes. All are welcome to attend the Sept. 9 library lawn concert. Adults and mature teens are invited to attend the set of 3 free classes at the Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library. Students are required to purchase their own book with CD for $24.95. Good quality, plastic flutes can be signed out for free or purchased for $70.
