New nail salon opens in Boothbay Harbor

For anyone who is in need some pampering and nail maintenance, there's a new spot in the harbor where you can enter with tired aching feet, or nails in need of some shaping and polish, and come out feeling like a beauty queen — or king.
Tom Le, a cousin of Boothbay Harbor Nails owner Huong Le, who also owns a spa in Topsham, was in the new salon on Townsend Avenue a few days after its opening.
He said that Huong Le is renting the space for the summer.
“We're not sure how busy it will be, so we just want to try it out for four months to see how it goes,” he said.
Le, who is Vietnamese, said that there are 600,000 nail salons all over the globe, and 90 percent are owned by Vietnamese people.
He said so far response has been overwhelming.
“People say they are so happy to have us here because they don't have to drive so far for a manicure or pedicure.”
On July 8, Le was performing a pedicure on longtime Barters Island summer occupant Connie Nelson. Nelson, who lives in Connecticut in the offseason, was relaxing in the big, soft vibrating chair with her feet immersed in a pool of circulating blue-colored water.
“Most of my neighbors and family in Bayville have already been here,” she said. “It's heaven. But you've got to have the vibrating chair, too.”
Nelson said she has pedicures often. “Usually every two to three weeks, when I'm in Connecticut, and when I'm here. I have them year-round, because it's so relaxing. They'll usually massage your legs and feet, too.”
Le concurred that he does, indeed, massage legs and feet along with the pedicure.
“It's very relaxing after a house full of company,” Nelson said. “I usually only have pedicures, unless there's a big event. Then I'll have a manicure too.”
Located at 38A Townsend Ave., the salon is open from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. On Sundays. Walk-ins and appointments are both welcomed. Call 207-633-0094.
