Talk on 'Increasing your Perennial Garden' June 5
A well designed and maintained perennial garden can provide years of color and enjoyment. Come learn the basics of perennial care and how to increase your perennial garden with master gardener Linda Redman of the Boothbay Region Garden Club on Friday, June 5, 1-2 p.m., at the Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library.
Redman is a retired school teacher, Mainer, wife of an Air Force veteran and mother of four. She said, in the beginning, she made many mistakes in attempts to fill her yard with as many flowers as possible on a zero budget. Then she discovered unique methods of increasing her flowers and shrubs. She completed the Cooperative Extension’s Master Gardener Course and currently works in gardens on Burnt Island and at Brae Maple Farm in Union.
According to Redman, there are many ways of having more perennials in one’s garden, from sharing friends, to catalogs to greenhouses. Once that first perennial is acquired, there are ways of increasing them that do not require anything but a little work. It is both fun and rewarding.
“Then, you will be the one sharing with your friends,” Redman said. “I don’t like to throw a plant away, so I find another place for it in another garden.”
