Two Salty Dogs donates to animal shelter

On Feb. 14, Carrie Koskela saw a black Honda Pilot pulling into the parking lot of the Humane Society Thrift Shop in Boothbay Harbor.

For Koskela, office manager of Lincoln County Animal Shelter, this is always a welcome sight, because this van is driven by the owners of Two Salty Dogs Pet Outfitters in Boothbay Harbor, Don and Liana Kingsbury.

Kingsbury was there to drop off a huge donation to the animal shelter, including multiple kinds of dry and wet dog food, four bags of treats, and a whole pile of gently used collars, toys and a doggie coat. There was even a can of Musher's Secret, which is spread on a dog's paws before they go in the snow to form a barrier and keep snow from getting mashed into their pads.

According to Koskela, Musher's Secret is very useful at the shelter with dogs in their runs since there is snow everywhere.

“They are the dynamic duo, those two,” Koskela said. “They are huge supporters of the shelter. They sell tennis balls there for the shelter, they always have a donation can, they created the Mutt Scrub. They do so much for us.”

The Kingsburys also keep items that are returned to their store — toys and collars that didn't work for a customer aren't tossed or written off, they are boxed up and taken to the shelter where they can do some good for animals in need.

“They had a customer come in and buy a new doggie coat,” Koskela said. “She left the old one behind to donate, and he brought that too. He's always bringing us stuff, and we appreciate it so much.”

“Whatever we do for the shelter, it always includes a lot of love. Always with the love,” Kingsbury said.
