'Good Morning Neighbor' program begins
The Boothbay Region Community Resources Council would like to announce a new program to help those who live alone called “Good Morning Neighbor.”
This program will enable those who do live alone to feel more independent by having a volunteer call them every morning to make sure that they are OK.
Although the fine details are still being worked out, the general idea is that there will be teams consisting of three members each who will make phone calls every morning to those who have signed up for the program.
Volunteers will be given a rule book that will be their guideline; the police department will also be involved in case someone does not answer their morning call.
The intention of “Good Morning Neighbor” is to help maintain the independence of those who live alone; a comforting feeling knowing that someone will be calling to make sure the individual is OK. As we age and live longer, it is imperative that one remains active and safe while still being able to live alone.
“Good Morning Neighbor” will start at the end of this month. If you are interested in using this service, or to volunteer, please give Debby Hidu a call at 207-633-1928.
