There is finally a place to pick up a loaf of bread and some milk in the downtown area of Boothbay Harbor. Dianne and Mark Gimbel are opening a new convenience store.

The store, Harbor Mart, is at 15 Commercial Street, across from Gimbel & Sons Country Store and beside Orne's Candy Store.

The Gimbels will be selling staples like milk, bread, cheese, eggs and butter; water, soda, wine and beer. There will be pharmacy items including aspirin and allergy medications, toilet paper and paper towels, and other household items.

A hot coffee bar and some locally made fresh baked goods will be available on cold winter mornings, and a slow cooker with a daily soup or chili will be ready for a hot lunch. There will also be some locally made sandwiches, and snacks for munching. In one display case is a variety of fresh fudge from the Downeast Fudge Factory.

The Gimbels said they are open to suggestions for other items, and welcome any ideas. So stop in and check out the new convenience store, and offer up your thoughts.

The store opened on Friday, Nov. 7.
