Nov. 4 election draws huge voter turnout in Boothbay Harbor
The Boothbay Harbor Town Office was a scene of well-organized chaos as hundreds of locals turned out to vote on Nov. 4.
While Town Clerk Michelle Farnham registered new voters, two volunteers checked off names of people voting. Nick Upham directed voters to empty booths while Louis Burnham helped voters insert their ballot and handed out “I Voted” stickers.
“Turnout has been very good,” said volunteer Nylene Page as she checked in another voter.
“I vote because it's important who is running our towns and cities,” voter Jean Preston said. “One of the many reasons I came out was Question 1, which I voted yes on. We shouldn't be allowing such cruel practices.”
“It's our civic duty to vote,” said resident Verna Werlla. “If you don't vote today you can't complain about the results tomorrow.”
Werlla's cousin-in-law, Mike Michaud, is on the ballot for governor of Maine.
“I'm 82 years old and love life here and being part of the community, that's why I vote,” said Carl Dennis.
The polls opened at 8 a.m. and will be open until 8 p.m. Results will be posted as soon as possible at www.boothbayregister.com.
