Garden club hosts speaker Sept. 10
Gardens and plants of the world will be the focus of the presentation by Rodney Eason at the Wednesday, Sept. 10 meeting of the Boothbay Region Garden Club.
Eason is a native North Carolinian who is now proud to call Maine home. Prior to joining Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens as the director of horticulture, Eason was in charge of the display gardens at Longwood Gardens for eight years. He received an master’s degree from the University of Delaware and a bachelor’s degree in landscape architecture from North Carolina State University. Eason, his wife Carrie, and their four children live in East Boothbay.
His love of gardening began in kindergarten after the teacher read about a lollipop tree. That afternoon, when he got home, he went out into the yard and planted a pack of licorice under a large camellia. Thirty years later, he is still on the quest for a licorice shrub and lollipop tree.
Preceding the 1 p.m. general meeting, there will be a round table at noon with Margaret Holden and the History of the Boothbay Region Garden Club, Part #2. Guests are always welcome at the club’s meetings, which are held the second Wednesday of the month at St. Columba’s Church on Emery Lane.
