Boothbay Harbor fireworks rescheduled
The community fireworks that were postponed on Windjammer Days and the Fourth of July have been rescheduled.
Friends of Windjammer Days Chairman Dianne Gimbel met with Boothbay Harbor Town Manager Thomas Woodin and Catherine Wygant Fossett of the Boothbay Harbor Region Chamber of Commerce to discuss rescheduling and how to satisfy those that donated money to the shows.
It was decided that one of the shows would be part of the Boothbay 250th celebration. Those fireworks would be set off near East Boothbay on August 24. The second show will be in Boothbay Harbor in the usual location on August 29 (changed from earlier announcement due to a conflict), in celebration of Harbor Fest. (Rain dates are August 31 or September 1, if necessary).
In an effort to be fair and to represent those that donated money to the shows, a tally was done based on what was contributed. The town of Boothbay contributed approximately $4,000 which includes the $3,000 municipal contribution. The remaining contributions came mostly from businesses in the harbor with a few large donations from individuals who live on Southport or in the harbor and their expectation is for fireworks in the harbor. Therefore, $4,000 will be allocated from the community fireworks for the Boothbay 250th celebration August 22-24. The remaining funds will be allocated to the Boothbay Harbor show on August 29.
