I think music helps us become better listeners. Voices singing, pianos well tuned, instruments blending. Music listened to and performed almost seems to connect circuits as it travels inside us.

Callie Aldrich is a classically trained musician, and so was her mother from whom she learned piano. Her family was, and still is, full of music.

As the District Nurse she has visited and helped many, like her predecessors. Her musical experience, I believe, has supported her quest to help others. She listens through more than a stethoscope and hears with her heart.

Callie is retiring. And during a gathering in her honor at the Sherrill home on Southport, we all learned more about the woman who has helped us all feel better. We heard about her travels around the country, her family and how much her work has meant to her. She will be missed but not forgotten.

Lauri Andrews will become the District Nurse and Callie will be around from time to time to fill in. In the meantime, she will relax and enjoy summer in Maine while planning her next big adventure.

We are grateful for all you've done, Lady Callie, and will always be reminded of your deep love for music and listening and helping others.
