Yikes! June 19 at 6:30 p.m., at the town hall, there is a public hearing about the application of New Cingular Wireless, doing business as AT&T Mobility, to erect a cellphone tower on Bob Brown's property on Route 27.

Now complete, the application conforms to setback requirements, and a noise study that requires a 10-foot sound barrier. The Edgecomb Fire Department has asked if the town may place an antenna on the tower to improve emergency communications. The 100-foot tower, mounted on a 50-square-foot block, can bear 100 mph winds and 1.5 inches of ice; if it should break, it will collapse in against itself at a planned half-way point.

Another yikes! The fate of St. Andrews Hospital is back in the news, specifically, the possibility of 24/7 Urgent Care Service. Saturday, June 21, starting at 5 p.m., the second Edgecomb Congregational Church Summer Supper will benefit Eldercare Network, the owner/manager of the Edgecomb residential facility at the former Eddy School, and other Greens around the county. The children are gone for the summer from the Edgecomb Eddy School, and so are Madeline Olney, their school counselor, and Chuck, who are wending to Florida and retirement. They both will be sorely missed.
