'Bad Idea' letter was wrong
Dear Editor:
I was very surprised when I read Pamela Mancuso’s letter in the Register online. I was present at the rally on Saturday, April 19 and saw no evidence of the violence, anger or hatred that she mentions. The friendly crowd expressed loud disagreement with the current administration’s policies and waved signs expressing that sentiment. It was almost jovial except for the undercurrent of sadness that we had come to this state of affairs in our country. Any anger was transformed into humor, and it seems mistaken to describe strong disagreement with policies as hatred. The most emotional time in the rally was when the crowd joined into the call and response: “What does democracy look like?” “This is what democracy looks like!”
Hardly a scene of violence, anger and hatred! I expect that visitors to our region will not be taken aback to see such a gathering, as similar rallies are taking place in many communities.
