Ocean Point Column: Spring, passings, achievements and more
Spring has finally arrived. For some reason this winter seemed to drag on and on and I found myself probably like many of you hibernating and counting the days to March 20. It certainly puts a smile on my face to see the crocus and daffodils popping up in the yard.
Thank you to all those who posted pictures throughout the winter months on the OP website. Your thoughtful gesture really helps in keeping us connected.
Our condolences to the Colten family as we recently learned of Dick’s passing. Dick will certainly be remembered as a warm, kind and gentle man who wholeheartedly supported the Ocean Point community in so many ways. Dick is survived by his wife Liz, his daughter Ann, as well as his son Jerry and wife Costanza and his grandchildren Sebastian, Giacomo and granddaughter Eliza. Dick was pre-deceased by his Ocean Point in-laws Jim and Doreen Dun. A memorial is planned for sometime this summer and contributions may be made in Dick’s name to the Maine Public Radio.mainepublic.org.
It was wonderful to hear from Marilyn Heise this winter via email. Both she and Jack celebrated milestone birthdays with their family. Belated happy birthday to you!
Congratulations to Ciara Rush who completed a very successful year competing in track and field. Clara represented her school Ursuline Academy located in Dedham, Massachusetts. As an 8th grader she ran the 300-meter often running and defeating juniors and seniors. Her three uncles enjoyed watching her compete, as they are all track officials.
Ciara’s mom Mary is preparing to run her third Boston Marathon. Mary is planning a yoga fundraiser on Thursday, April 3 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Elks Club in West Roxbury, Massachusetts to raise money for the Ellie Fund. For those of you who may not be familiar with this worthwhile organization the Ellie Fund raises money to support breast cancer patients. Those of you who attend Mary’s class in the summer know what a fabulous instructor she is. Mary will teach part of the class but will also have other high-level instructors teaching as well. Refreshments will be served after class, I’m sure it will be a special night. Many of you I know don’t in the area but perhaps you would consider a donation. If you would like to attend or donate please reach out to Mary at maryrushboston@gmail.com. for further details.
Congratulations to Phoebe Pohl and her successful four years of track and field at Bates College. Phoebe is a long distance runner often competing in the 10,000 and 5,000 meters along with other distances as well. Phoebe will graduate this spring and majors in environmental studies.
Congratulations to our newest residents of the Ocean Point Community, the Imhof Family. Roger, Amy and their daughters Cecilia, Sophie and Emily recently purchased Connie Saindon’s property.
Now that spring has arrived the activities calendar is currently being finalized. Once again the activities committee under the leadership of Ginna Yerrall has planned many events for the enjoyment of all, some familiar ones and several new ones. If you would like to volunteer or head up an activity please contact Ginna. I’m sure she would appreciate hearing from you.
I’m looking forward to seeing many of you in just a few short weeks when seasonal water returns.
Have a great week!
