Boothbay Region Cemetery District approves 5% landscaping fee increase
Boothbay Region Cemetery District trustees approved a new $42,000 landscaping contract for the upkeep of the 11 cemeteries the district oversees. The services will be completed by Bahama Breeze Landscaping. This is a $2,000 increase from the contract the company has maintained for the past three years.
Last month, Bahama Breeze Landscaping proposed the new agreement be set at $48,000, as reported in the Register.
In other business, trustees clarified the guidelines for the use of their annual $10,000 fund from the George McEvoy Foundation. They concluded that they have purview to maintain veteran graves if they decide to move forward with the project. In the spring, trustees will investigate the number of veteran gravesites in Wylie, Lewis, Pear Street and Clam Avenue cemeteries.
The trustees plan to revise the district’s bylaws in April, focusing mostly on cleaning up language, reorganization and updating procedures to reflect current technological capabilities. They are also looking to change the section regarding when trustee elections can take place.
