Thank you for the article
Dear Editor:
I'm writing to express both my and Dee's deep appreciation for the current, in-depth article concerning my brother's loss by the Register's new "ace" reporter, Harbor local, Isabelle Curtis. It's obvious she did her homework. Besides our in-home interview/pictures, she had an inch thick binder condensed from my four-inch one with 80 years of information which she ferreted out meaningful details for her story. Well done, Isabelle!
There are also a couple other must express thank-yous. First is Southport's Jim Singer. Upon reading about my brother, he was right on the phone to me and then a personal visit where he gave me copies of the neat/meaningful collage that he created (see Register's article) of my brother, his awards, his ship, his rank/unit, and his group of nine low-ranking soldiers, all college graduates (one PFC lawyer), highly fluent in multiple languages. With my brother's hearing loss, he could read lips besides English, in three foreign languages. I think besides my brother, three to four of his unit were also lost. Additionally, through Mr. Singer's efforts my brother will have his own banner. Such an honor! So many thanks, Jim.
Chuck Mahaleris of Senator Collin's Augusta office was instrumental in our receiving the additional awards. Senator King's Augusta office was also involved.
