Trevett Column
BICA went out in style with the final potluck of the year. The hall was most festive with decorations and holiday music. The BICA officers and trustees outdid themselves providing turkey, ham, stuffing, salads, vegetables, mashed potatoes and of course gravy. Everything was so delicious. And all this was followed by many, many desserts provided by attendees. It was a fun evening and gave the 70+ folks in attendance a great start on the holiday eating and other celebrations.
As most know the hall is closed until April, so no potlucks take place there. We have had folks step forward to host potlucks in their homes: January will be Emily and family, February will be Marianne, and March will be Kim and Dave. They will take place on the third Wednesday of the month. Details regarding the potlucks has already been provided by email so if you didn’t receive the information contact Judy at judyb1625@gmail.com.
The big news announced at the potluck was the retirement of Evelyn as president of BICA. Twenty years ago BICA had announced the sale of the hall dishes as they were not being used. Evelyn was not going to let that happen and stepped forward and brought BICA back from the brink. Through her leadership over the years, BICA has been able to support the BICA mission of helping those that need a little boost by organizing better than yard sales, raffles, bus suppers, etc. And the dishes are getting used every month. Please see below for Evelyn’s personal message.
Kim has agreed to serve as president stepping in for Evelyn. Kim was proud to be asked and will follow the example set by Evelyn. The other news was Judy stepping aside as treasurer and turning her duties over to Rob. Frosty was welcomed as a new board member. And a 2nd vice president position is being created so Evelyn can stay involved. BICA is in good hands going forward.
As we get into the colder weather, you may know of some folks on the island that need a little assistance. If so, please let Kim know at 207-350-5993 or cycleby4@gmail.com.
Dear Barters Island Friends:
As you probably know I have retired as president of Barters Island Community Association.
This was a very hard choice for me and I have been thinking of retiring for a while. It is really necessary for the Association to move forward.
The board has elected a really good candidate for the president office, Kim Brauer. Kim has all the good qualities we have been looking for. Her thoughts are much like mine knowing that this island is so very special and we are so lucky to live here. Kim regards all folks on the island as equals and wants to help anyone who needs a little assistance from BICA. Kim will make a great president!
Thank you for all your help while I was in office and I hope that everyone, young or old, someone who has lived here most of their life or newcomers will come and help the Barters Island Community Association.
All folks are invited to help make this wonderful island a success.
I will still be working as hard as I can to help. The board have even given me a new title Assistant, Vice President!! I appreciate still being involved. Anyone wishing to use the hall for a personal party can still call me as that is one of my jobs. 207 380 6977.
Remember we can’t help the entire world but taking care of this beautiful island is our charge!!
Please help Kim in any way you can
May 2025 find peace, health and love.
