Parking problems in downtown Boothbay Harbor
Dear Editor:
Finally have returned to Florida I felt something was missing while sitting in the sun and reading today’s ‘Morning’s Catch’ article about BBH ‘Pondering its Parking’ Issues.
The problem we all face when finding a parking space in downtown BBH is, “How am I going to fit into it.?” When the spaces were laid out after downtown was repaved, they were plotted about a foot or two wider than needed and definitely two to four feet two short - so this isn’t anything new.
Though my wife and I drive reasonably sized cars, we often encounter larger vehicles that are hanging over one or both ends of their white lines into adjoining spaces because the SUV/truck didn’t fit in the space allotted to them (They must have arrived early in the day when enough spaces were empty to allow the driver to maneuver into one of them). Trailer hitches that are almost the height of my hood ornament offer yet another annoying challenge.
We find that towns in Florida usually have much larger spaces - dealing with the reality of today’s large vehicles and setting an example that BBH should consider, too.
Perhaps replotting and repainting the existing spaces should be the first item for consideration.
