Special Olympics Equestrian Competition held
On Sept. 28 at the Skowhegan Fair Grounds, the 27th annual Special Olympics Equestrian Competition took place.
Ronda LeConte competed in Equestrian B1 as well as working trails. She won a third for her Equestrian Event and a second for her Working Trails. Ronda rode "Joy" with Maple Hill Farms in Auburn. She is a Boothbay athlete and has participated for many years in this event.
Dana Albright from Edgecomb competed in B1 Western Barrel Racing as well as Working Trails. He tied for third in Barrel Racing and a first for Working Trails. Dana rode "DJ" with Healing Horses in Bowdoinham. Dana ,too, has participated for many years in this event.
It was a brilliant day. Many athletes competed state wide.
Lots of volunteers whose selfless support makes this happen. (committees, law enforcement, equestrian officials, EMT services, judges, stewards, scribes, staging, safety coordinator, gate keepers, announcers, guest speaker and singer, farrier, souvenirs, event photos, awards coordinator, donations coordinator, director of sports and competition and clean up crew, to name most.)
It also had a great well working, donations only brunch items for sale and the volunteer women involved in this event make more money for the next year through donations then charging per item.
Equestrian is headed by Kim Kennedy and Mike Littlefield. If interested or questions contact Maine Special Olympics. South Portland.
