The Lincoln Theater in downtown Damariscotta announces that is has the privilege of being one of the first theaters in Maine to partner with the Royal Shakespeare Company and their inaugural broadcast premiere of “Live from Stratford-upon-Avon,” a program that will screen the RSC’s productions from Shakespeare’s hometown around the world.

We kick-start an exciting new season of three RSC plays with the sellout production of Richard II (the fastest selling show in the RSC’s history), with David Tennant (Dr. Who, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire) in the title role, and directed by RSC Artistic Director Gregory Doran. It will debut at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 5 with a matinee encore on Sunday Dec. 15 at 2 p.m. We’re thrilled to be screening the first ever live cinema broadcast from the stage of the Royal Shakespeare Company.

Richard is King, ordained by God to lead his people. But he is also a man of very human weakness. He is a man whose vanity threatens to divide the great houses of England and drag his people into a dynastic civil war that will last 100 years.

"Richard II" plays in Stratford-upon-Avon from October 10 - November 16, before it transfers to London’s Barbican Theatre until January 25 2014. The broadcast of RICHARD II will be the first of four RSC Shakespeare plays to be filmed live during the next year, and is the start of an on-going program to make the Company’s work more available to a global audience.

Tickets are $15 for adults, $13 for Lincoln Theater members and $5 for youth 18 and under. They are bound to go quickly.
