Investigate all avenues
Dear Editor:
It is quite disappointing to read some of the letters that people have written, and to hear comments around the community about the proposed economic development in Boothbay. I would think that before you create a document or spread a rumor that may influence many people, you would be certain you have the facts correct.
This reminds me of a quote by Herbert Spencer: “There is a principle which is bar against all information, which is proof against all arguments and which cannot fail to keep a man in everlasting ignorance — that principle is contempt prior to investigation.”
We have a year before any construction could take place. Let’s all take that year to educate ourselves and investigate all the options to improve the village district and traffic in the Common area, at no cost to the taxpayer.
We must try not to have delusions of grandeur, thinking we’re smarter than most. We should not have contempt for economic development before we investigate all avenues.
