36ers notch first win against Dirigo Sturgeon, 6-1
The Boothbay 36ers scored six runs on one hit in their 6-1 victory over Dirigo Sturgeon in Gardiner June 27.
Catcher Blade Brann was the 36ers’ offensive star who walked twice, scored the team’s first run and knocked in another run with a double. The 36ers scored three in the first, one in the second, and single runs in the fourth and sixth innings. Dirigo starting pitcher Hunter Foard pitched two innings, allowed no hits, walked four and there were four runs, all unearned. Boothbay stole six bases including three by Aidan Sanborn. The 36ers also benefited from six Dirigo errors.
“Aggressive base running and making the most of their errors. It was a fun game,” 36ers coach Adam Harkins said. “We were a little sloppy to start, but pulled it together.”
Jacob Watkinson threw 99 pitches in his six innings. He allowed one earned run, on four hits, struck out 11 and walked one. Sanborn pitched one inning in relief. He threw 13 pitches, struck out one and allowed no walks.
The 36ers’ next game is a road contest versus Skowhegan Sr. Legion at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 2.
