Boothbay Region Food Pantry
For over 50 years the Boothbay Region Food Pantry has addressed food insecurity by providing nutritious food without cost or obligation to people living in Boothbay, Boothbay Harbor, Southport and Edgecomb.
During 2023, the pantry partnered with Veggies To Table and Twin Villages, both of which organizations raise and deliver vegetables to local food pantries, churches, and other venues in the area. In addition, food drives by schools and other organizations helped keep the pantry’s shelves well stocked throughout the year. The Rotary Club provided delicious homemade soup on a regular basis, and the local garden club donated and delivered Christmas trees to food pantry clients.
All of the pantry’s activities are managed by a volunteer board of directors and volunteers. While almost all funds are donated by the region’s year-round and summer residents, over the years the pantry has received small grants for specific purchases, such as a new freezer. Because of the community’s ongoing generosity in donations of both food and funds, the food pantry has never needed to organize a fundraising campaign.
The food pantry is located on the ground floor of the Congregational Church in Boothbay Harbor and is open from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Friday except the day after Thanksgiving.
To be clear, the pantry will be open on the Friday after Christmas. Usually, clients go to the pantry once a month, but they are welcome to attend at any time that they are facing a food emergency. New clients are always welcome. Proof of residence in the region is requested.
The pantry’s directors greatly appreciate the community’s ongoing support that enables the food pantry to continue to help your neighbors in need of food assistance. Thank you!
