Southport hires Thompson as LPI
Southport has a new licensed plumbing inspector and will have a new code enforcement officer next month. On Nov. 29, selectmen unanimously appointed Mike Thompson of Boothbay as the new LPI and, on Jan. 1, he is in line to become code enforcement officer. In recent weeks, Thompson has worked with current CEO and former LPI Jim Gagnon in preparation for his new role. Thompson told selectmen he will become re-certified for both positions within six months.
In other action, selectmen approved two town hall rentals. Morgan Mitchell is renting the hall for a Dec. 15 birthday party. Anita Sherman is renting the facility for a Dec. 24 family gathering. The board also received a request for a streetlight on Cameron Point Lane. The board charged Chairman Gerry Gamage to investigate whether the location is on private or public property. “If it’s a private road, then it's not our responsibility,” Gamage said.
Selectmen meet next at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 6 in the town hall.
