Ocean Point Column: Congratulations, condolences and more
We have been experiencing some milder weather recently especially on the weekends, I hope it continues.
Thank you to all who have posted wonderful photos of our beautiful Ocean Point this past week; it still looks like summer!
In honor of Veterans’ Day I would like to take the opportunity to thank all of our veterans for their unwavering support and defense of our country. If given the opportunity please stop and thank a veteran for their service.
Congratulations to Ciara Rush for her wonderful performance in her school’s recent production of “Letters to Sala.” Ciara actually was cast in two different roles in the play that she handled with ease.
It is with great sadness that I pass along news of the sudden death of long time beloved resident, Leslie Whitehouse on Nov. 1. Leslie was an educator by profession graduating from Longwood College earning a
B.A. in English and began her career teaching English for many years in several states. Later in her career Leslie would go on to become a pre-school teacher and member of the Christ United Methodist Church where she also served as a trustee and participated in several other committees within the church. Leslie was very involved in the Wilson Memorial Chapel where she served as president, vice president and wedding coordinator. Leslie was also a member of the East Boothbay Methodist Church.
Leslie first arrived at Ocean Point with her husband Lanny whose family had vacationed here for many years. Each summer they would spend time with their boys Jim and Matt at the family cottage and eventually their own summer home. As many spouses do, Leslie immediately embraced the Ocean Point community and became quite involved. Leslie always made herself available to assist in any activity that needed an extra pair of hands. Our annual chicken barbecue, lobster bakes, and bake sales were just a few of the activities that she chaired or volunteered for.
Her time at Ocean Point was spent enjoying her family, friends and all that Ocean Point offers. Leslie enjoyed Bridge, book club, knitting, gardening, Bible study and participating in her church. Leslie was a kind, gentle and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and a good friend and confidant to all who knew her. Both she and Lanny have always exemplified the spirit of Ocean Point; so warm, cheerful,
thoughtful and welcoming to all.
I have many wonderful and personal memories of Leslie throughout the years. We volunteered on many activities together; she was always incredibly helpful and supportive. The Ocean Point community will surely miss her.
Our heartfelt condolences to Leslie’s husband Lawrence (Lanny), her son Jim and his wife Kelly, her son Matt and his wife Denise, her grandchildren Logan and Hanna and great-grandchild Holden.
A Celebration of Life will be held in the summer of 2024. Contributions in Leslie’s memory may be made to: Ocean Point Colony Trust, P.O. Box 642, East Boothbay, ME 04544; East Boothbay Methodist Church, 2 Church Street, East Boothbay, ME 04544; or to the Christ United Methodist Church, 1020 S. Valley Forge Road, Lansdale, PA 19446.
Enjoy the milder weather and have a great week!
