Gun control

Dear Editor:
States with the strictest gun laws: 1- California, 2- New Jersey, 3-Connecticut, 4- New York
Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut.
New York Times, 11/22/2014: Medical experts at Yale University had called for drastic measures to help Adam Lanza in the years before he shot and killed 26 people at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., but those calls “went largely unheeded” by his mother, who was also shot to death, according to a new study/
The official action by the state was to enact stricter gun laws.
Lewiston, Maine, October 25: Robert Card, 40 killed 18 and injured at least 13. Robert Card used an AK-47 style weapon, he was involuntarily committed after saying he heard voices and wanted to shoot up his reserve unit, and was released after two weeks. Less than 24 hours after the shooting at a press briefing Sen. Collins and Rep. Golden turned it into an anti-gun rally.
But who or what is to blame? The gun? The severely mentally ill individual? The "Medical Experts" who released him? The D.A.* or Law Enforcement, for not adhering to Maine's Yellow Flag Law*?
* District Attorney, also known as a state attorney, is a law professional who represents the U.S. government in criminal cases that take place in county-level or local courts. District attorneys are responsible for efforts like recommending sentencing, initiating further investigations and presenting cases against a suspected lawbreaker.
** Maine’s yellow flag law, allows police and prosecutors to seek a court order restricting the ability of people who have threatened to harm themselves or others to access dangerous weapons.
