Merry Barn Writers’ Retreat is thrilled to welcome back Teralyn Reiter and Storytree Theatre for another kid-created acting experience. Ready, Set, PLAY! is geared toward children in grades 1-4. Class meets at the Merry Barn on Tuesday afternoons, beginning on Oct. 10, from 3:30 to 5 p.m.
In this creative adventure, we’ll explore the FUNdamentals of theatre. Participants will develop skills in performance, collaboration, and communication. Kids write, design, and ultimately perform the world premiere of their very own play, showcased for family and friends at our final gathering on Dec. 19. There will be an abbreviated class on Halloween; there will be no class the week of Thanksgiving. The cost is $250 and financial assistance is available.
In addition to developing after school programs, Teralyn offers week-long Artist-in-Residence programs for local schools and beyond. She is currently working with kindergarten, 2nd, and 3rd grade students at Great Salt Bay Community School and Pine Street Elementary as they learn about force and motion, story structure, and animal habitats. Teralyn is a playwright, whose current play, Finding Freedom: The Journey of Robert Smalls, will premiere in Charleston, South Carolina next month – giving 6,500 students the chance to learn the story of this American Hero. You can learn more about Teralyn's past works and current works at www.storytreetheatre.org.
