Ocean Point Column: Kids’ games, food sale and more
Our August vacationers are certainly experiencing some of the best weather of the summer season.
As usual it was another busy week of activities. Thanks to Ginna Yerrall both the kids and the adults enjoyed a lively games of Right, Left, Center last Tuesday and Wednesday evenings.
Thanks to the Raymond Family for hosting all the kids for lawn games on Thursday night.
Once again Ginna Yerrall and Barb Slayton organized a very successful Food Sale on Friday morning. There were so many delicious food items and baked goods donated by so many Ocean Pointers. Many of the local merchants and Ocean Point residents generously contributed items for the silent auction and raffle; thank you all for your support and thanks to the following volunteers: Cookie Dana, Stephanie Kaler, Maureen Bennett, Lisa Rush and Holly Cleary.
The Boothbay Ambulance Service generously gave their time last Friday morning to come and instruct us in CPR, thank you to them and to Jeff Slayton who assisted in coordinating the event.
Mary Rush, along with her kitchen crew, Ciara Rush, Sarah Carr, Kate Dawson and Cara Pond treated us all to an incredibly delicious pancake breakfast last Saturday. Thanks to Mark Pond who manned the door and to the very capable waiters and waitresses: James Rush, Louie and Liam Raymond, Everett Kaler, Sophie Cecilia and Emily Imhof, Ellie McGonegal, Maizie Mahoney, Izzy Carr, Nara Holland and Colin and Cara Dreher.
Later that evening Matt and Kathy Lindley hosted a very well attended porch party.
Sadly, it’s the last of the season for both events so we will look forward to attending them again next summer.
One of my favorite events of the season, the ball game grill, was held on Sunday. Thanks to Mark and Cara Pond for serving up some tasty burgers and hot dogs after the ball game and to those who brought a dish to share.
Team Rush narrowly defeated Team Dawson 8-7 in Sunday’s game. David Pike pitched for the winning team. Kyle Rush hit a grand slam and Griffin Adams went 3-3 for Team rush. Jonathan Yerrall and Luke Arnpriester made some great defensive plays for Team Dawson.
Thank you to Dottie Yunger from the Aquarium for her extremely fascinating and informational look at the new Aquarium that will open next summer. Dottie did share that they are providing some open houses this summer to give the public a peek at all the new and exciting things that are planned.
