Down East Yacht Club enjoys ‘Launching Party 2023’
Saturday, June 10 the weather was great for a day to be on the water and every day is a great day for land-based DEYC party. The DEYC took advantage of the opportunity to celebrate the beginning of the DEYC boating season! Our annual Launching Party was the perfect cast off event! What better location for the event than Luke’s Boatyard (owners and DEYC Members, Frank and Nora Luke) in Linekin Bay, East Boothbay.
Appropriately, some DEYC members traveled on the water to be in attendance. Some 100 members arrived in total. Commodore Brent Pope put in many hours in preparation for the event. He began the fun with a warm welcome and appropriate acknowledgements to many members: hosts Frank and Nora Luke, Administrative Assistant, Kate Winslow, many Past Comodores, Committee Chairs, members of our Board of Directors and the Current Bridge were recognized for their guidance and for being a very important part in the success of our club. New members and prospective new members were introduced to a resounding applause.
Mary Nearn, director of Food and Beverage at Midcoast Hospitality Group, Inc., supplied the delicious menu. Let me arouse your tastebuds with a sample of the menu: Chilled shrimp with special cocktail sauce, a variety of chicken sliders, a complete smorgasbord of cheese platters for every taste bud, assorted meats, a variety of olives and nuts, and a wonderful cake and ice cream dessert.
Vice Commodore Aaron Rugh and Susanne Rugh supplied a special treat of “Paine Killers” from our famous Woody Wagon! Fleet Captain, Ed Gillis, addressed the Club with a schedule of our highly anticipated Summer Cruise! Commodore Brent Pope reminded the Club of all other upcoming events including the raft-up in Lineken Bay and our entry in the Windjammer Days Parade!
