Seahawks clobber Cobras for first win of season

The Boothbay Region High School baseball team defended its home field 16-6 against Carrabec May 10. The win put the Seahawks at 1-5 for the season.
The game was no close match heading out of the third inning with a 10-0 lead by BRHS. Finn Harkins held his own on the mound, allowing two hits on 17 pitches.
BRHS Coach Ed Crocker said Harkins was the player of the game.
“Finn Harkins pitched a hell of a game,” said Crocker. “He was pitching outstanding. He’s on the mound, they’re making mistakes behind him, and he never once lost his cool, never once got upset. He kept doing his job.”
However, the early lead put the Seahawks in a comfortable spot and left the Cobras hungry. Carrabec rose to the occasion and scored six runs in the fourth, while BRHS nabbed five of its own.
"This team can come back,” Crocker said he told his team at the end of the third inning. “Never take baseball for granted ... The right bounce, the right ball, you can let them right back in and they did. Unfortunately, I think we motivated them."
The game ended in the fifth inning thanks to Aidric Canada.
"Aidric Canada was probably the most unselfish player we’ve seen all year,” Crocker said. “He bunted three times today and each time was to move a runner. It was a sacrifice every time and he ended up getting the eventual winning RBI on safety squeeze. It was a really nice play to pull that off. "
With a combined 14 hits, all but two BRHS players made hits and all but three had runs. Leading the Seahawks, Harkins had four runs, four RBI and two hits. Gryffin Kristan also had four RBI, and had two hits and a run. Liam Jacobs and Henry Putnam had three runs and two hits each.
Crocker said this was the first game in a long time where BRHS has had players with multiple hits.
Harkins and Jacobs shared the mound and allowed a combined nine hits with five strikeouts. Crocker said he pulled Harkins to save him for two more games this week.
“Defensively, they are coming around a little bit,” Crocker said. “The last two games I felt they played a lot better. Offensively, we’re being more aggressive and that's what I've asked them to do.”
On May 8, BRHS lost 8-1 at Winthrop.
Winthrop opened strong with three runs in the first inning and one in the second. Maddox Cusumano responded with a run for BRHS in the fourth inning. The Ramblers took off with another two runs in the fourth inning and one each in the fifth and sixth.
Cusumano and Kristan pitched for the Seahawks. Kristan had four strikeouts and Cusumano had two.
