Dear Editor:

I have known Mark and Buzz for many years and I was very excited when Mark told me he decided to run for the Boothbay Harbor Board of Selectmen. Mark’s vision for the Boothbay region is not to change what makes this area so great; he grew up coming here his whole life and that is why he chose to move here many years ago. Mark wants to preserve what is great about our area, the working waterfront, our historic buildings and businesses, and our small town sense of community and how we come together to help each other.

Mark does, however, see the problems many of us are facing day to day and he wants to make things better. He sees how this town works better for some people than others, how we are losing our sense of community and how we do not have a plan for future development in the Harbor, which is already leading to lost opportunities to preserve our town and our way of life.

I have lived in the Boothbay region for 12 years and currently work in Boothbay Harbor. Many people have shared with me both why they love this area and their concerns for where we are headed as a community. I truly believe that Mark has all of our best interests in mind and that he will not only work hard to make Boothbay Harbor’s local government better but that he will also work with the surrounding towns to make the region a better place for all of us to live and work.
