Boothbay Harbor residents approved financing $1,282,566.89 for the footbridge project during a Jan. 23 special town meeting. Seven residents attended the meeting which preceded the scheduled selectmen’s meeting. Town Manager Julia Latter reported the town will receive funding from The First after signing financial documents on Jan 31.
Under the loan’s terms, Boothbay Harbor is borrowing $1,282,566.89 at 5.41% interest over a 20-year term. Total interest paid over the term is $824,405.
During the selectmen’s meeting, Latter updated members on the footbridge project’s progress. She announced an on-site meeting earlier Jan. 23 with electrical engineers and electricians. The project would likely begin once Central Maine Power disconnects lights and the town receives an easement on the Squirrel Island parking lot.
“It will be advertised on the town website and Facebook when the footbridge is closed,” Latter said.
In other action, selectmen tabled a ceremony recognizing Boothbay Harbor Police Department’s receiving Maine Law Enforcement Accreditation Program status. Latter explained poor weather prevented an MLEAP official from attending the meeting. “This is a project begun by Bob Hasch a couple of years ago,” Latter said. “He came out of retirement to lead the department through the process, and it was completed when he retired last fall.” Latter expects the ceremony to be rescheduled for the next meeting.
Selectmen unanimously approved two liquor license renewal requests. China By the Sea received a malt, wine and spirits liquor license renewal. Bennie Alice received a malt, wine and spirits liquor license renewal for Cabbage Island Clambakes.
Selectmen meet next at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 13 in the conference room.
