Boothbay Region Garden Club tour: It was grand!
Dear Editor:
To homeowners, BRGC members, visitors, friends, and friends of friends:
The chairs of the Boothbay Region Garden Club wish to thank all who attended our Home and Garden Tour on July 15. After a two year COVID hiatus, we were back in action!
Thanks are also extended to all who parked, baked, arranged flowers, cajoled, drove buses, sold tickets, provided buses, and most of all our homeowners! These wonderful folks offered their homes only to be canceled twice and finally the grand event in 2022!
These homeowners are thanked for their patience, generosity, attention to detail and welcoming over 400 visitors to their homes! The participants this year were Patrick and Linda Pitelli, Robert and Kate Horgan, and Ted and Gay Chatham in East Boothbay, Peter Souza and Jim Schatz in Boothbay Harbor, and Mike Reynolds and Jamie Morin in Boothbay. Every home and every garden was outstanding!
Special thanks to Jane and John Lunt, Mimi and Tony O’Neill, Vanda Yonge, Abbie Shaw, Barbara Widmayer, the Boothbay Harbor Region Chamber of Commerce, Rocky Channels School AOS 98, the Boothbay Register and Sandy Abernathy, club treasurer.
Why does the Boothbay Region Garden Club do this tour? Our club donates its profits directly back into our community. We sponsor scholarships and camperships ($12,000), we plant summer gardens at the Boothbay Center, Civil War statue and flower boxes at all public buildings ($6,000). In winter, we provide holiday wreaths to all public buildings. Our club also sponsors garden related projects at St. Andrews Village on a monthly basis as well as informative monthly garden related speakers for members and visitors.
So thank you to all and hoping we missed no one, these tired chairmen are finally retiring after eight years of tour planning. The good news is that the Tour will continue with new chairmen, Ida Lancaster, Julie Krug and Ann Marie Mahoney. We wish them well!
It’s been fun!
