Boothbay loses final game to Morse

Fri, 11/06/2020 - 8:30am

The tumultuous eight-game season for the Boothbay Region High School field hockey team ended Thursday, Nov. 5 with a 4-1 loss to the visiting Morse High Shipbuilders.

Due to the pandemic, the piecemeal schedule included playing regional teams like Lincoln Academy and Morse, and games against regular Mountain Valley Conference foes Hall-Dale and Oak Hill. Many of the other MVC schools opted out of playing this season, so a league schedule was not formed. Also, Maine Principals’ Association had ruled before the season that teams in a similar geographic area could compete. The Shipbuilders, who compete in the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference, opted to play this season and, due to the two schools being only about 25 minutes from each other, games were scheduled.

Morse took a 2-0 lead in the first quarter on goals by Lillian Pomerleau at 9:30 and Lilly Clifford at 1:21.

Boothbay drew to within a goal when senior co-captain Cortney Meader scored on a penalty stroke with 12:24 remaining in the second 15-minute quarter.

Kennedy St. Pierre made it 3-1 before halftime with a goal at 3:39. Morse’s final goal was scored by Dylan Barr at 14:14 of the fourth quarter.

Boothbay goalie Jaelyn Crocker made nine saves while Morse goalie Gracie Hawkes made six saves.
