The Bayville Buzz
As with everything else, The Buzz has experienced its own issues gathering and disseminating information for our home bound readers. Everyone seems to be laying low and whatever activities are going on people are keeping to themselves. There are rumors of various family visits but unless they are directly reported to me, they won’t be mentioned here.
The big news in our cottage is that Dad/Gramps, aka, Bill Allison, has now arrived from Naples, Florida and passed his COVID-19 test — or so he says. He is enjoying his new found freedom, the view and time with family. It is wonderful to have you back Dad!
Those of us here in Bayville have been watching the world unfold from our porches, docks, decks, yards, boats — whatever outdoor space possible. We our fortunate to have such a beautiful place to escape the challenges of this year.
Some moorings and cottages remain empty and around the bay there are still a couple of docks that remain silent. However, I cannot recall a summer where I have seen more people swimming. In addition to people’s own docks, I have seen lots of kids and those who are kids at heart, enjoy the warm waters in Bayville, Appalachee and Sprucewold. I have even seen people jumping off the footbridge downtown. Karen McNamara and I enjoyed a swim to Fish Hawk and the water was amazing.
Also spotted splashing about in water was Mark and Barbara Spencer’s dog Luna. They and Lucy Nielsen were teaching her how to swim. Turns out Luna is a quick learner and is now much better at the dog paddle than either of them. Lucy even got Luna to enjoy a ride on her paddle board.
Speaking of warm waters, the eighth annual Cabbage Island Swim is happening Sunday, Aug. 16 at the Gardiner/Collins dock at 9 a.m. Starting positions are determined by bib numbers and those will be handed out starting at 8:45. I conveniently will be bringing my son, JJ, to Bucknell for the hopeful start of school, so can’t make it. It is a great event and even if you don’t do the swim, kayakers, paddle boarders and support staff are always welcome! The usual celebratory gathering after will not be happening this year.
The other big event is the annual Bayville Village Corporation meeting happening Saturday, Aug. 1 at 9 a.m. at the Bayville Dock Waterfront Pavilion. Our fearless leader, Greg Merrill, will bring us all up to date on all things Bayville. In addition to the email he sent out, all info is available at the Bayville Post Office and the Community House. As if you didn’t know, masks are required and seats will be arranged in a socially responsible way.
Last but not least, Liz Bagonzi is celebrating another birthday. We are all looking forward to the party!
As always, send your news to thejeffallison@gmail.com
At this point, I will report anything!
