April 22 update: New COVID-19 cases, recoveries in Waldo County

Wed, 04/22/2020 - 11:45am

AUGUSTA — The Maine CDC has updated its list, April 22, of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the state of Maine.

Today, there are 907 cases confirmed across the state.

Across the state, 455 people have recovered from COVID-19, while 39 people have passed. The number of people hospitalized, at some point during their illness, across the state stands at 144.

Looking at hospital COVID-19 data, there are currently 42 hospitalized, including 18 in critical care and 10 on a ventilator.  There are 170 available critical care beds out of 314 total and 277 available ventilators of 333 total and 367 alternative ventilators.

The Maine CDC reports 16,784 negative cases, as of April 22. “Maine CDC will publish negative results once a week on Wednesdays. Because of the number of outside labs that are testing samples from Maine, it is not currently possible to post a complete count of negative tests on a daily basis,” the Maine CDC website states.

By sex, 485 females have tested positive in the state and 422 males have tested positive.

The below cases represents the number of full-time Maine residents who have tested positive for COVID-19, according to the Maine CDC.

“This is likely an underrepresentation of the true number of cases in Maine since not all individuals are being tested,” the Maine CDC says. “For individuals not considered to be at high risk, medical providers are currently advised to diagnose COVID-19 based on symptoms.”

Each day, the Maine CDC updates its COVID-19 data on its website by noon with the latest coronavirus numbers from across the state. Today’s update came at 11:45 a.m.
