The State Fire Marshal is investigating a Wednesday morning blaze which damaged a wood shop at 495 Back Narrows Road. Three departments responded to the 6:45 a.m. alarm. Besides the wood shop, the property owned by Julia Holmes has two houses. Holmes lives in one house, and her son Terry lives in the other. All damage was limited to the wood shop, according to Boothbay Fire Chief Dick Spofford.

Boothbay Harbor and Southport firefighters assisted Boothbay for 90 minutes extinguishing the blaze. Edgecomb Fire Department provided mutual aid with station coverage. Battling the blaze was complicated by a large stack of wood piled inside the shop.

“We’re waiting for the fire marshal’s report,” Spofford said. “The wood shop hadn’t been used for years, but it still had a lot of wood stacked inside. This made putting out the fire more difficult.”

Spofford reported the fire marshal may finish his report later today or tomorrow.
