The local basketball hoopla continues as the Boothbay Harbor Rotary Club and Boothbay Region YMCA host their annual double-elimination junior high tournaments Friday through Sunday, March 8, 9 and 10.

The 39th annual Rotary Girls tournament will get underway at 4 p.m. at Boothbay Region Elementary School. Featuring 12 teams, including two Boothbay teams (7th grade and 8th grade), the 22-game tournament is played at BRES on Friday and Saturday and concludes Sunday at the YMCA.

The opening games are: Boothbay 7 vs. Lincoln, 4 p.m.; Yarmouth vs. Oceanside, 5:15 p.m.; Oak Hill vs. Winslow, 6:30 p.m.; Bath vs. Medomak, 7:45 p.m.; Boothbay 8 vs. Woolwich, 8 a.m. Saturday; and Turner vs. Mt. Valley, 9:15 a.m. Saturday.

The 34th YMCA Boys Classic features 10 teams, including a seventh grade team and an eighth grade team from Boothbay. The 18 games get underway at 4 p.m. Friday with Wiscasset tipping off against Coastal 8.

Other opening games include: Medomak vs. Cony, 5:30 p.m.; Coastal 7 vs. Boothbay 7, 7 p.m.; Boothbay 8 vs. Oceanside, 8:30 p.m.; Winthrop vs. game 1 winner, 8 a.m. Saturday; and St. Dom's vs. game 2 winner, 9:30 a.m. Saturday.

Prior to each opening game at both tournaments, a shooting contest is held, with trophies to be awarded to the top three finishers. Tournament all-stars are chosen for each tournament and refreshments will be sold.
