Pie sale tradition continues at Methodist Church

A $20 store pie was the inspiration behind a decade long Boothbay Harbor tradition. Cathy Blake saw a nine-inch rhubarb pie for sale and realized an opportunity for her fellow United Methodist bakers.
“We can do this. We bake pies for church suppers and the first year we sold 30 pies in 30 minutes,”said Blake.
And Memorial Day weekend 2008, the bakers began baking and selling pies. On June 23, 12 bakers made 30 pies. Eager pie-lovers had their choices of strawberry, strawberry rhubarb, chocolate cream, peach, lemon meringue, and a new creation lemon chocolate cream.
This year’s sales began Memorial Day weekend and run every other week until mid-September, according to Blake.
